In honour of Friendship Day, celebrated on July 30, we’re putting the spotlight on five gal pal pairings that are goals.
1. Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston
The Friends friends are goals. The pair have been tight they starred on the hit TV series in the ’90s and have stuck with each other through thick (fame and wealth) and thin (divorces) ever since. Aniston’s Instagram account has plenty evidence that the two hang out frequently.
2. Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei
The friendship between Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei goes back to the ‘80s when they starred in the sitcom A Different World. Tomei is godmother to all three of Bonet’s children: Zoe Kravitz, Lola Iolani Momoa and Nakoa-Wolf.
3. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler first met in 1993 at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic. The funny ladies became best friends and would over the years become leading comedy actresses. They had overlapping stints at SNL, hosted the Golden Globes together – thrice (2013, 2014, 2015) and starred in the movie Sisters as a pair of siblings that couldn’t be more the polar opposite of each other.
4. Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey
Both queens of TV in their own right, Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have been friends for 40 years! Despite coming from different backgrounds – Winfrey grew up poor while King spent part of her childhood in Turkey, where she had a housekeeper and a swimming pool – they found each other in the course of life and have remained the best of friends. O once said, “Whatever this friendship is, it’s been a very fun ride – and we’ve taken it together.”
5. Taraji P. Henson and Mary J. Blige
Best friends are each other’s biggest fans. Mary J. Blige said of Taraji P. Henson, “She’s helped me through so many things and brought sunshine to my darkest day, she is an angel.” In turn, Henson has revealed that the song that helps her to live her best life is Blige’s hit single “Just Fine.”
