Moleskine makes some of the best tools for creators and artists, which includes much more than just notebooks and stationery.
The brand has a whole range of backpacks and totes that are built for every creative pursuit.
For many, Moleskine is synonymous with functional and minimalist black notebooks. Their timeless collection of notebooks aims to replicate those used by some of the world’s best artists and thinkers like Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway and Bruce Chatwin, to name a few. Founded in 1997, the Italian brand has since ventured beyond their signature product, designing a line of high-quality bags. These bags are quintessentially Moleskine, displaying the same utilitarian design language the brand has become known for. Let’s take a closer look at the collection.
Classic bag collection
First created in 2011 by the prolific designer Giulio Iacchetti, the collection embodies the simplicity and functional design of the classic Moleskine notebook. The bags share the rounded edges and boxy profile of the notebook, which creates a timeless appearance to match any outfit – formal or casual. The leather exterior adds an air of sophistication and luxury to the range, which makes this our favourite collection.
The Classic Leather collection comprises bags of various sizes for different needs. But they all have one thing in common – they are built around storing and moving ideas. The bags are filled with useful pockets for your notebooks, pens, laptops and more, and are lined with sufficient padding to protect them all. This creates a line of backpacks that is as functional as it is beautiful.
The classic bag collection starts at S$250 for the Classic Leather Device Bag and caps off at S$390 for the Classic Leather Pro Backpack.
The Metro collection is a modern take on the Moleskine design language. It retains the overall notebook-inspired shape while adding modern features and fabrics. For one, the collection combines water-resistant nylon, zips, and padded pockets to protect your precious stationery and devices from the elements. The zippers are heat-sealed to keep even rain out of your precious notes or sketches.
On top of that, the bags are decked out with an external pocket for easy access to your notepad or phone, and luggage straps to attach the backpack to your carry-on. The Metro line is Moleskine’s most functional and extensive range, with a whole suite of sizes, colours, and designs to choose from. So, regardless of your art form or tools, there’s a Metro backpack to suit you.
The Moleskine Metro Collection starts at S$190 for the Metro Slim Backpack, with the top of the line Metro Backpack retailing for S$220.
Go Shopper collection
The Go Shopper merges the customisability of a notebook with the functionality of a tote bag. The bag comes in two variants, plain or ruled – just like a Moleskine notebook. The unique tote boasts an outer lining made from wood pulp that can be written on, making the bag a canvas you can wear. Plus, the wood layer crumples and wears over time, which adds character and helps keep the bag soft.
Inside, the bag is furnished with a notebook slot and an apt message from Moleskine – “Fill the page, fill your bag, fill your day”.
